Couples Therapy

Why are people so hesitant to start couples therapy?

Does it mean something is wrong with you?

Will it make you break up?

Will it highlight things about the relationship that are good or only the bad?

Will my partner finally say what they have been holding in or keep silent?

Can we actually change, as people?

Are we ever going to get along?

Why won’t they just agree with me and let it go?

Why is everything so difficult with them all the time?

I thought this was supposed to be easier. Does that mean we aren’t in love?

Couple’s therapy is for those couples who don’t have sex or where one partner has cheated, right?

The truth is, couples therapy can help anyone who has discovered a road block or a fork in their relationship. They keep coming up against the same block that is causing unresolved conflict OR they have a decision to make whether to take their relationship to the next level and want to be sure.

Pre-marriage therapy is an excellent idea. Know before you go into marriage how to communicate and what potential road blocks to acknowledge. Know the patterns you have now will only get reinforced if they are not addressed. The time to start is now.

If you have consistent arguments over the same things or can’t seem to resolve an argument, couple’s therapy is for you! Try not to let fear stop you from seeking support. Do you want to be in a connected and sustainable relationship? Then you want to make it stronger with communication, not weaker with avoidance.
